ProMax® 80-Gallon Electric Water Heater

ProMax® 80-Gallon Electric Water Heater

Model ECT-80

ProMax Electric Tank Water Heater ECT-80 is rated 4.3158 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Attractive cabinet and makes hot water. Replaced a Rheem that was 16 years old and cost $500 back then. Experienced "sticker shock" when pricing several other brands. Price was definitely a factor with A. O.Smith being the least expensive. I hope I purchased a quality water heater. Installed today so haven't had it long enough to offer an honest opinion on performance or longevity, although water was hot 1 hr after installation. That's a start. Disappointed I was not offered an extended warranty. Cannot honestly answer the questions below because of installation TODAY. Ask me in a year or so.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well built unit Plumber picked this 80 gal. HWH out for me as a replacement to my Whirlpool that was only 9 years old. He recommended AO Smith over many other units out there for durability with well water. Impressed with brass drain rather then cheap plastic. Only con so far is that it was very expensive, $800.00 installed. Most expensive HWH I ever owned but needed it in an emergency.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from replacment the last water heater lasted 20 yrs. This one is new and looks great to soon to tell how well its going to work so far its great. Not sure if its going to effect my electric bill but it should be on the plus side considering the age of the one we replaced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Performance and Longevity In the summer of 1987 an 80 gallon AO Smith, electric water heater was installed into our new home. Today we replaced the tank with a new, same type AO Smith water heater. Its reliability and longevity speaks for itself.

Product Features & Options

DynaClean™ Diffuser Dip Tube

Thanks to the improved technology, the inlet tube features water jets that redirect incoming cold water into the tank, creating turbulence, which helps reduce lime build-up, therefore maintaining heater efficiency.

CoreGard™ Anode Rod

A. O. Smith’s exlusive aluminum anode has a stainless steel core, which protects the tank against corrosion longer than ordinary mild steel anodes.

Brass Drain Valve

Our brass drain valve is more durable and tamper-resistant than an ordinary plastic drain valve, which contributes to improved safety and reliability.

Permaglas® Glass Coating

Protects steel tank from corrosion and maximizes tank life.

How it Works

Cold water enters the water heater through an internal “dip tube” which forces the cold water to the bottom of the tank and pushes hot water out through the outlet connection. This arrangement provides the most hot water for a given tank size. There are two thermostats on a typical residential water heater. The thermostat at the bottom controls the lower heating element while the top thermostat controls the upper heating element. Usually, only one heating element is active at a time. Because the lower element sees the cold water first, the lower heating element does most of the work, while the upper heating element is used only when the entire tank is cold. Because water can corrode the steel tank, we glass line the inside of the tank and install an anode rod to help reduce corrosion. The temperature and pressure relief valve is a safety device designed to open if the internal temperature or pressure of the tank exceeds certain limits. Water heaters should be large enough to provide adequate hot water even when temperatures are cold and household demand is greatest.
