Ed Begley Jr., to speak at SOLAR 2011
Ashland City, TN (Tuesday, 12 April 2011)
Actor and environmentalist Ed Begley, Jr., will be a featured keynote speaker at SOLAR 2011 in Raleigh, N.C., on Saturday, May 21. Begley will also be available for interviews prior to his speech at the A. O. Smith booth (#701).
When it comes to taking personal responsibility for the environment, few individuals can match Begley’s efforts. Known for turning up at Hollywood events on his bicycle, he has served as chairman of the Environmental Media Association and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. He serves on the boards of many organizations, including the Thoreau Institute and the Midnight Mission.
Begley’s keynote presentation, “Live Simply So That Others Can Simply Live,” is an inspirational look into the state of the environment as Begley tells how he began his 40-year eco-journey in 1970. It includes humorous stories about his first electric car and his first attempt at composting. Begley also offers advice on how to save money by living green as well as the small changes we can each make to create a big impact. As Begley puts it, “Start with the little things—you don’t ‘run’ up Mt. Everest!”
Begley will speak at 1 p.m. on the main stage in the ballroom. He will also be available from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the A. O. Smith booth (#701) to greet fans and discuss A. O. Smith’s high efficiency products, including the latest advancement in solar thermal water heating, the Cirrex® Solar Thermal Water Heating System.
The Cirrex is one of the most advanced solar thermal systems available on the market today. Up to 70 percent of the energy needed for a home’s water heating can be captured from the sun with this system, meaning the Cirrex can significantly reduce operating costs.
The solar thermal collectors generate as much energy as traditional photovoltaic solar panels, but at one-eighth the cost. The larger the tank and number of panels incorporated into the system, the more effectively the Cirrex can capture energy from the sun.
The National Solar Conference is the longest-running educational event for solar energy professionals in the U.S. Sponsored by the American Solar Energy Society, SOLAR 2011, the 40th annual solar conference, will take place in Raleigh, N.C., May 17-21, at the Raleigh Convention Center.
