A. O. Smith Receives Top Honors In Manufacturing
Ashland City, TN (Monday, 11 June 2007)
The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, working in partnership with Lattimore, Black, Morgan & Cain, P.C., Nashville Business Journal, and Waddey & Patterson P.C., has recognized A. O. Smith Water Products Company as the recipient of the 2007 Excellence in Manufacturing Award for innovation.
“A. O. Smith Water Products Company is proud to call Middle Tennessee home and we take great pride in receiving this honor from the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce,” said Ajita Rajendra, President of A. O. Smith Water Products Company. “We strive to be the innovative leader in the water heater industry, and this award is a true testament to the hard work of our employees to bring the most innovative products to market that not only answer the hot water needs of our customers, but also are high efficiency, making them the best option for our environment.”
Now in its third year, the Excellence in Manufacturing Awards program was established to celebrate and recognize quality among Middle Tennessee manufacturers. The nominees were evaluated and selected by a panel of seven volunteer judges with extensive public and private manufacturing experience, who scored the applicants based on criteria such as leadership in manufacturing, manufacturing processes, growth and consistency and employee development. A. O. Smith received the innovation award for its commitment to providing the water heater industry with innovative products and solutions for its customers. Innovation is the core strategy at A. O. Smith, and that shows within their products as the company is always first to market new and innovative water heating technologies. The company started this trend early on as it patented the glass lining of water heaters in the 1930’s, a technique that is still used to this day.
One product in particular takes the term innovative leader to a new level is the Vertex. The Vertex is a high efficiency residential water heater that performs at 90 percent thermal efficiency and is truly a “green” water heater option for consumers.
A. O. Smith Water Products Company is headquartered in Ashland City, Tenn., and is just one of the reasons that Cheatham County is in the ranks of the fastest growing counties in the state.
“It is an exciting time to be part of Cheatham County as we are witnessing unprecedented growth,” said James Fenton, director of Economic Development, Cheatham County. “It is quite impressive to our newcomers that we have such companies as A. O. Smith on our community roster. When one of our own is awarded such a prestigious honor as this, we look at it as not only a reflection on the company, but also our community. Congratulations to A. O. Smith.”
