Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful quiet operation! I bought this A.O. Smith Water Heater several weeks ago and had previously dealt with a distinctly awful water heater. (It had been installed by a home warranty service and NEVER worked properly. It began rusting after 6 years and the installation was sub standard!) (I will certainly never have a home warranty program again!!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No joke Enough water for hours! Must buy worth every dollar

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lots of hot water - but... This unit is a warranty replacement for one that failed in just under 5 years. Recovers fast and almost never out of hot water, even with two showers running at the same time. We loved the old one - except for 3 failures during the 59 months we had it, the last failure being fatal to the unit. AO Smith stood behind the warranty on the tank although we hated paying 400 bucks for labor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable and Economical I bought this a year ago. It works flawlessly , it's quiet and provides plenty of hot water and is cheap to operate on Natural gas

Rated 5 out of 5 by from so good, I bought one again Had the same unit installed 14 years ago; worked so well and was so reliable that I had no choice but to replace it with a new unit from the same maker, AO Smith.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from LARGE CAPACITY BUT LIMITATIONS Product serves you well except quality construction is somewhat poor. This is the third AO Smith FCG75 hot water heater installed in the 11 years. So product life is very short. If this one fails probably try alternate manufacturers.

Product Features & Options

DynaClean™ Diffuser Dip Tube

Helps reduce lime and sediment buildup, maximizes hot water output. Made from long lasting PEX cross-linked polymer.

CoreGard™ Anode Rod

A. O. Smith’s anode rods have a stainless steel core that extends the life of the anode rod allowing superior tank protection far longer than standard anode rods.

Push-Button Piezo Ignitor

Makes lighting pilot fast and easy with one-hand push-button spark ignition.

Brass Drain Valve

Our brass drain valve is more durable and tamper-resistant than an ordinary plastic drain valve, which contributes to improved safety and reliability.

How it Works

Gas water heaters heat water by burning either natural gas or LP (propane). Gas water heaters need a source of air and also need to be vented properly. Cold water enters the water heater through an internal “dip tube” which forces the cold water to the bottom of the tank and pushes hot water out through the outlet connection. This arrangement provides the most hot water for a given tank size. Most gas water heaters use a pilot light. The pilot light on some models also generates the power needed to operate an electronic gas valve. When cold water enters the tank, the temperature sensor on the gas control tells the main gas valve to open. Gas flows to the burner where it is lit by the pilot light. The air needed by the burner is supplied by the room where the water heater is installed. The exhaust gases are vented to the outside. When the proper temperature is reached, the main gas valve shuts off. Because water can corrode the steel tank, we glass line the inside of the tank and install an anode rod to help reduce corrosion. The temperature and pressure relief valve is a safety device designed to open if the internal temperature or pressure of the tank exceeds certain limits. Water heaters should be large enough to provide adequate hot water even when temperatures are cold and household demand is greatest.
