Types of Storage & Buffer Tanks
Factory Jacketed & Insulated, Vertical Storage Tanks
These A. O. Smith storage tanks are designed for storing potable water. Fitting locations are designed to meet the needs of normal installations plus those for the A. O. Smith Cer-Temp 80® piping methods.
A. O. Smith storage tanks are ideal for use with gas-fired copper heat exchanger equipment for storage of any potable water at temperatures up to 180°F.
Large Volume, Factory Jacketed & Insulated, Horizontal or Vertical Storage Tanks
Large volume tanks are designed for storing potable water. From 140 to 2,500 gallons - A. O. Smith stocks vertical factory jacketed and insulated tanks from 140 gallons up to 2,500 gallons for fast delivery and retrofit applications.
All stock tanks are glasslined with standard tank openings as shown on following pages. For custom or larger capacities, see our custom line tanks or consult your factory representatives.
Factory Jacketed & Insulated Heat Pump Storage Tanks
These A. O. Smith heat pump storage tanks are optimized for heat pump DHW applications requiring long duration recovery periods.
Heat pump DHW production often relies on minimal input and full utilization of off-peak periods to heat the stored water. These tanks are designed to take full advantage of these systems by reducing turbulence and providing unprecedented stratification. The proprietary stratification system employs a unique baffle that arrests water velocity into and out of the tank to prevent disruption of the stratified layers. An impressive R30 insulation value helps retain heat until it is demanded by the system. Draw down of 95% sets these tanks apart from others, delivering more hot water from a given capacity.
Buffer Tank Hydraulic Separator
A Buffer Tank/Hydraulic Separator is designed to maximize the runtime and limit the on/off cycling of a boiler while separating the boiler flow from the system flow.
The Hydraulic Separator aspect of the tank is designed to de-couple the hydronic heating system flow from the boiler flow by acting as a separator so that the two independent flows do not affect one another. When the system flow is less than the minimum required boiler flow there will likely be erratic system delivery temperatures and excessive boiler cycling. These adverse affects can cause premature component failure, and in most cases, boiler efficiency will be adversely affected.
Heavy-Duty, Large Volume Storage Tank
Heavy-duty large volume storage tanks sizes from 120 to 4,000 gallons. Large volume tanks are designed for storing potable water. All tanks are constructed to the requirements of the ASME Code. These ASME Code tanks are available at 125 and 150 PSI working pressure. Consult factory for tanks with special configurations.
Uninsulated Bare, Horizontal & Vertical Storage Tanks
A. O. Smith commercial water storage tanks are designed for use with domestic water systems and provide storage capacity for large water draws. These uninsulated storage tanks are glass lined, built and tested in accordance with ASME code Section IV, HLW. They are available in vertical and horizontal mounting options.
Chilled Water Buffer Tanks
A. O. Smith Buffer Tanks are designed to maximize the runtime and limit the on/off cycling of a boiler while separating the boiler flow from the system flow.
