ProMax® Power Vent Higher EF 50-Gallon Gas Water Heater

ProMax® Power Vent Higher EF 50-Gallon Gas Water Heater

Model GPVT-50

ProMax Power Vent Higher EF Gas Tank Water Heater GPVT-50 is rated 4.55 out of 5 by 40.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great water heater I am very pleased with the water heater. I recommended it to a neighbor. It is easy to set and operate. I purchased because I did not have access through the roof for a standard gas hot water heater. This model not only allowed a gas hot water heater install, but also was much cheaper to install. It is vented outside through the wall. I purchased a 50 gallon unit to fill a jetted tub. The old hot water heater had no hot water left after the fill to keep the water warm. This unit no problem. I actually have the unit set pretty low and have ample hot water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Provides all the hot water we need. We are replacing an AO Smith hot water tank with this identical tank. Old tank was 13 years old, working perfectly but we didn't want to chance having the old tank fail.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Have hot water again. Bought and installed this new hot water heater 2 weeks ago to replace my former 10 year old AO Smith model GPSH 50 hot water heater. This new model GPVT 50 was supposed to be the direct replacement model for the obsolete model I had, but be aware it was not an exact fit so I had to modify the plumbing and exhaust connections. This new GPVT 50 model is 4" taller, about an inch larger in diameter, the position of the power vent fan on top of the heater is different, and it has a large combustion air intake chamber on the back side that in-turn requires it to be located a few inches further from the wall.Despite the additional time needed to modify all the connections, it was easy to install and has been working great (as expected) for 2 weeks and counting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Upgrade This unit replaced a 9 year old A O Smith 75 gallon power vent water heater. Appears to be made to the same or better level of quality. Gas control unit is "state of the art" and, most importantly, the power vent blower is MUCH quieter than the one it replaced! Those of you that have put up with loud power vents in the past will notice a significant improvement. This water heater seems to run less frequently than the old unit so I assume that the thicker insulation is doing it's job. I'm very pleased with this water heater so far!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This model was recommended at minimum for our need So far it has met all of our expectations for consistent flow and temperature regulation as well as quantity of warm to hot water. We had replaced an A O 40 gal with this 50 gal and it really made the difference.

How it Works

Gas water heaters heat water by burning either natural gas or LP (propane). Gas water heaters need a source of air and also need to be vented properly. Cold water enters the water heater through an internal “dip tube” which forces the cold water to the bottom of the tank and pushes hot water out through the outlet connection. This arrangement provides the most hot water for a given tank size. Most gas water heaters use a pilot light. The pilot light on some models also generates the power needed to operate an electronic gas valve. When cold water enters the tank, the temperature sensor on the gas control tells the main gas valve to open. Gas flows to the burner where it is lit by the pilot light. The air needed by the burner is supplied by the room where the water heater is installed. The exhaust gases are vented to the outside. When the proper temperature is reached, the main gas valve shuts off. Because water can corrode the steel tank, we glass line the inside of the tank and install an anode rod to help reduce corrosion. The temperature and pressure relief valve is a safety device designed to open if the internal temperature or pressure of the tank exceeds certain limits. Water heaters should be large enough to provide adequate hot water even when temperatures are cold and household demand is greatest.
