    A. O. Smith Awards Allied Technical Services, Inc. The Great Spec Race Winner with Apple iPad™ at 2010 American Society of Plumbing Engineers Trade Show

Ashland City, Tennessee (Monday, 22 November 2010)

    A. O. Smith sponsored Allied Technical Services, Inc. (ATS) and The Great Spec Race – ASPE Edition contest during the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) show in Philadelphia, Pa., Nov. 1 and 2. A. O. Smith awarded the winner, Koriey Dixon of Redding Linden Burr, Inc. (RLB), with an Apple iPad™.

As part of ATS’ The Great Spec Race campaign, the company held a live edition at its booth during the ASPE show, challenging designers and engineers to be the fastest to accurately build and submit one of three test projects using its software for a chance to win an Apple iPad courtesy of ATS’ sponsors. ATS is the leading provider of online plumbing specification software for engineers, architects and interior designers.

Dixon, a plumbing and mechanical gas designer for Redding Linden Burr, Inc. (RLB), a Houston, Texas–based full service mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering firm, received the A. O. Smith branded Apple iPad as one of the winners in the competition. Dixon finished in two minutes, 25 seconds with 100 percent accuracy in the commercial office building category.

“For 40 years, A. O. Smith has been an exhibiting supporter of ASPE, and this year’s show had another great turnout,” said Matt Schulz, senior product manager, commercial products for A. O. Smith. “Being a sponsor of ATS’ The Great Spec Race during ASPE added to the trade show excitement and further generated great exposure for the A. O. Smith brand, demonstrating our continued commitment to innovation.”

ATS’ The Great Spec Race – ASPE Edition in Philadelphia helped generate exposure for ATS’ sponsors and exposure for ATS design programs, having received 125 contest entries and more than 100 engineers and designers that signed up for an ATS Spec account.

Additionally, A. O. Smith showcased five industry-leading products and services at its booth including its VF Series commercial gas boilers, Cyclone® Xi commercial gas water heaters, Gold Xi Series commercial electric water heaters, new commercial electric heat pump water heaters, and A. O. Smith’s new iCOMM™ Elite remote monitoring system, the next phase in interactive remote monitoring for commercial water heating technology. The three commercial water heaters and the commercial boiler feature advanced space-saving designs, improved energy efficiencies, and user-friendly controls.

ATS is the only no-cost plumbing specification information system provided to all mechanical consulting engineers, architects and interior designers in North America. The company’s advanced software allows users to create customized plumbing specification documents faster and easier than ever before. ATS technology utilizes building information modeling (BIM) software renderings with Revit (.rfa) family files, housing more than 5,700 nested combinations available for download for more efficient and accurate spec build-outs.

In October 2010, A. O. Smith teamed up with ATS as an exclusive sponsor for inclusion into the company’s online plumbing specification information system. The sponsorship provides A. O. Smith with numerous options in product design and innovation.
